Ballantyne Reimagined Spring 2022 Update

Phase one of Northwood’s master plan is underway

By Hailey Rorie

Northwood Office is taking Ballantyne to the next level. By implementing its ambitious master plan, called Ballantyne Reimagined, it will create a walkable, 24-hour mixed-use neighborhood. The project will be the new heart of Ballantyne, focused on culture, community and sustainability.

Last May, Northwood officially broke ground on the first phase of development, located at the former Golf Club at Ballantyne. Since then, the site has been cleared, and over 125,000 cubic yards of dirt have been removed. The creek for the 6-acre Stream Park is being relocated and restored, and construction of the pedestrian bridge has begun.

Coming soon are infrastructure improvements, a 3,500-person amphitheater, urban-style apartments and a dining and retail district, coined The Bowl.

New roads will provide access to The Bowl, Stream Park and the amphitheater and also extend across Ballantyne’s Backyard to North Community House Road.

Infrastructure Improvements

Northwood is making Ballantyne more walkable. Currently, the company is investing in traffic infrastructure and connecting walking trails to provide easier access to Ballantyne’s Backyard. New roads that will provide access to The Bowl, Stream Park and the amphitheater will also extend across Ballantyne’s Backyard to North Community House Road.

The existing golf paths didn’t make sense from a walking and running standpoint, so Northwood is creating more efficient, better-connected loops. Ultimately, the new walking paths, road extensions, additional parking and other enhancements will make Ballantyne’s Backyard more accessible and provide direct connectivity to The Bowl dining and retail district expected to open in late 2023.

For now, Ballantyne visitors will notice more fencing than before. Those fences are temporary. Colorful signage will provide maps and explanations. The community will still be able to enjoy the park and attend engaging programs during construction.
