Cheers to Summer!

Seven cocktails to tickle the tastebuds

By Michael J. Solender

Many of our favorite Ballantyne-area bars and restaurants are raising a toast to all things summer. Their mixologists have created libations to slake the thirst and pique the tastebuds. We believe these seven featured cocktails capture the season’s bounty in a glass. They may serve as your mixed-drink bucket list or inspire you to whip up your own sipping sensation. Salud!

Patio Perfect Mojito

Brixx Wood Fired Pizza

In recognition of National Mojito Day on Thursday, July 11, Brixx will celebrate all month long with its Patio Perfect Mojito. This twist on the classic cocktail features coconut and vanilla rum (or vanilla vodka), a splash of pineapple juice, lime and plenty of mint. For additional summer flavor, shake up the “P2” with berry or watermelon. Pairs nicely with Brixx’s Hawaiian pizza or pear chicken salad.

$8 July special. 9820 Rea Road

The Refresher

Hickory Tavern

Enjoy this light and airy cocktail on the patio at Hickory Tavern, a neighborhood social spot where the game is always on. The Refresher combines Hendrick’s gin, St. Germain elderflower liqueur, organic agave nectar, sour mix, fresh basil and cucumber. It’s great on its own or as a complement to Hickory Tavern’s Maine lobster roll.

$9.50. 12210 Copper Way, Suite 212

The Icebreaker

Firebirds Wood Fired Grill

A riff on Firebirds’ signature Double Black Diamond Martini, The Icebreaker helps beat the heat with a melody of New Amsterdam pineapple vodka, Monin strawberry syrup, an infusion of pineapple and a citrusy lemon popsicle.

$11.  7716 Rea Road

The Blossom

The Ryal Bar

This is a summertime selection from the Tipsy Tea offerings at The Ballantyne, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Charlotte. The Blossom blends cold-pressed Jasmine Silver Tip Tea from Rare Tea Company, Junmai sake, lychee-infused simple syrup, fresh lemon juice and muddled lychee. It’s served in a signature wobble glass and garnished with a lychee-stuffed hibiscus flower. Great for sipping on The Ryal’s patio overlooking the golf course.
