Get to Know Your Neighbors

Faces introduces you to people who make Ballantyne lively and interesting. In this edition, meet Andrew Bodary, Dr. Susan Monbarren and Brian Henry. Responses have been edited for clarity and brevity.

Andrew Bodary

Hometown: Traverse City, Michigan

Job: Charlotte Division President, Taylor Morrison

Typical day

I start my day with a cup of coffee and a daily Wordle puzzle, followed by some form of exercise (I prefer running). Some days at work are full of meetings, while others include touring new construction communities around metro Charlotte. Every day includes lunch; I never miss lunch! My day usually ends with spending time with family, assisting with kids’ homework and always a crossword puzzle.

A friend turned me on to MasterClass (a subscription-based online education platform), and I love it. I am not a big reader, so the format is a great way to get exposed to new things.

What brings you joy?

My wife and three kids keep me busy but always happy. I also play as much golf as possible, which is the perfect way to replace everyday stress with frustration and disappointment. 😀

Dr. Susan Monbarren

Hometown: Akron, Ohio

Job: Owner, The Goddard School Ballantyne and The Goddard School Waxhaw

Typical day

I wake up at 6:30 a.m. for a 3-mile walk with friends and then go to both schools. I answer emails and interact with the admin team, teachers and children. I also communicate with our corporate office and see that both schools have everything they need.

“Where the Crawdads Sing.”  I loved the scenery and that it was filmed in the North Carolina coastal region.

What brings you joy?

Spending time with my husband and children.

Brian Henry

Hometown: Columbia, South Carolina

Job: Manager, Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont

Typical day

I wake up at 6 a.m., check emails, eat a quick breakfast and head to the office.

“Doc: A Memoir.” It’s excellent storytelling and a very personal book of Dwight Gooden’s adversity and triumph.

What brings you joy?

Spending time with family, listening to music and watching or attending sporting events.
