On June 1, Novant Health Ballantyne Medical Center will open its doors, marking another cutting-edge amenity coming to this area. “We want to provide remarkable care to this community one person at a time,” says Ben Brodersen, president and COO of the new hospital.

Novant’s $80 million investment in this new hospital is testimony to its commitment to bringing next-level care to the South Charlotte region, which experienced a 14% population growth between 2016 and 2021, according to Novant Health.

Located on Providence Road West at Johnston Road, the 48-bed hospital will feature three stories designed with the latest health care technological innovations. The first floor will focus on emergency care and imaging capabilities; the second floor will feature surgical and maternity care, and the third floor will contain patient rooms.

The emergency room on the first floor will have a reception desk and two triage rooms, where staff will see patients immediately to determine the level of treatment from a clinical standpoint before sending them to one of 15 treatment rooms. The ER unit will also contain two decontamination/isolation units, two trauma rooms and three psychiatric safe rooms, with a helipad outside the ER entrance.

“We will have a full-service emergency department, but we also have the benefit of the broader network of Novant Health resources, including tertiary care services at our sister hospitals,” Brodersen says.

The first floor will include an array of imaging services, including two CT rooms, one mobile MRI machine, two X-Ray rooms, two ultrasound rooms, a nuclear medicine room for patients injected with nonlethal radioactive dye, and three stress echo rooms with treadmills.

Ancillary hospital amenities on the first floor will include an outpatient lounge, family lounge, café, gift shop and room of reflection. “There is a lot of light,” Brodersen says, explaining that Novant purposely designed the entire floor with an airy, open look. “The café even has a beautiful small courtyard for outdoor dining.”
