The Big South Conference 5K Road Race will return on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 8 a.m. at the Blakeney Shopping Center.
The ninth running of the event is presented by Keffer Auto Group and will again serve as a fundraising opportunity for middle school athletics programs in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg (N.C.), Union (N.C.), and York/Rock Hill (S.C.) school districts. Since the race’s inception in 2010, the event has raised nearly $150,000 for middle school athletics.
Online registration is open at the official race website, bigsouth5k.com. The entry fee is $25 for pre-registered runners by Oct. 19, and increases to $30 after Oct. 19. All pre-registered runners will receive an official race t-shirt. Race day registration will be available on-site only starting at 7:00am.
During the registration process, participants will have the option of selecting a “middle school affiliation,” and when a middle school is selected, a percentage of the participant’s registration fee will be sent to the selected middle school’s athletic booster club. Additional proceeds will be distributed to the CMS School District, Union County Public Schools, and the York/Rock Hill School District to benefit all middle school athletics budgets.
Individuals also have the option of supporting the event and a specific school without running the race by signing up as a “Phantom Runner” for $20, and includes a race t-shirt. The Big South 5K Road Race will feature a finish line party of awards, music, food, games, vendors and giveaways.
The Big South 5K Road Race was created in 2010 to serve as a fundraiser for middle school athletic programs in Mecklenburg and Union Counties. Businesses interested in being a supporter of the 2019 Big South 5K Road Race should contact Ellen Harrington at 478-231-8439 or eharrington@vanwagner.com.
